ME, KONSHENS AND HIS STATE OF MIND

Hello. My name is Inna Peace.
I wanna start with giving you just a little bit about me
I’m a sista with a divine passion for the arts
And of that passion good music plays a big part
Now since I’m a sista whose spirit is made of pure soul
You should know that at the center of my musical heart
Beats hip hop, jazz, funk, R&B and go-go
Well I’m here to tell yall that I’ve found one band that does that all
A musical equivalent to me that gives me All I Want and all I need
That keeps me Trapped within the soul genres of my musical ecleticity
They are indeed a rare find
I’d like to talk to yall about Konshens and His State of Mind
These brothas make me love where I come from
Reppin hard with every bang of the congo and every beat of the drum
It’s the keys and the bass and the horn and the percussion
Tryna strip my inhibitions so they and my sway can have a private discussion
They’ve no need to ask if I’ll be faithful to thee
When every stroke of the keys speaks directly to the dancer in me
Telling me Dance Girl, when they ain’t gotta say nothing
Cause soon as the bass starts thumping my blood starts pumping
It flows from my soul down to my thighs
And attacks my subconscious until my body obliges
In that Moment in Time, I unwind and just wanna grind
Til the seductress and the dancer in me align
But I gotta control my movements cause my Konshens knows I can’t loose it
And succumb to this private discussion between me, the words and this music
But if I keep dancing like nobody is watchin
Then the dudes’ll start hawking
Then I’ll have to stop dancing and start blockin
They’ll start moving in from behind while I’m lost in the submission of the grind
So I try to stay focused and stick with the basic moves
Cause they ain’t ready for what this State of Mind makes my body through
In comes that horn and I’m reborn
And I just want more as it invades my middle and makes me get up on the dance floor
This sound makes me linkFridays to Cadillac like ride days
And at the same time got these so called performers dazed
Now they might not be bad, but ain’t it sad
That you can be good and still be an unoriginal individual
Let’s face it, unfortunately these days talent is rare
Not only do these brothas got plenty of it but they willing to share
They got me biased against lesser men
Them think they better thans
Those coulda woulda shoulda men
Them wanna bes and them look at mes
Those with audacity who think they gonna bes
Them who’re just pissed that they ain’t The Chosen One to bring this city to the industry
After all, imitation is a form of flattery
Cause didn’t you break out a solo artist and all of a sudden you have a band
Its okay cause they understand
Haters can’t blindside you if you keep em in side view
They know real could be hard to feel
You just don’t know it’s impossible to steal
Dwelling on a check deletes the good in the music that you make
In comes Konshens and….
Checkmate
Now you nervous about your own fate
They proving that hip hop ain’t dead with their gift
They just giving it what it need: a face lift
This is why I don’t mind being the head of their fan base
But, just in case
God I pray that you take away all that’s fake in music today
And help the unreal face the fact
That this State of Mind will just keep pushing em to the back
And I pray that you continue to keep them close
And continue to see what matters most
That if they keep their music true and keep their eyes on you,
Then no weapon formed against them will make them fall
At all.

Inna Peace
